2011–12 EHF Champions League
At the EHF Champions League 2011/12 participated in 39 handball club teams, who had in the previous season in their home leagues qualify for the competition. It was the 52nd staging of the EHF Champions League and the European Cup of Champions. The Cup Finals began on 3 August 2011, the final in the Final Four was played on 27 May 2012 for the third time in Cologne's Lanxess Arena instead.

Mode
Qualification: The qualification was held in the framework of several Final Four Tournaments: Four groups of four teams. For each group the best team qualified. Retiring twelve teams moved into the EHF Cup.
Group Stage: There were four groups of six teams. In a group, everyone plays against everyone a return match; the four best group reached the knockout stages. Retiring teams not attracted into the EHF European Cup Winners' Cup.
Second round: The second round was played in a knockout system with return game. The winner of each game moved into the quarter-finals.
Quarterfinals: The quarter-final was played in a knockout system with return game. The winner of each game moved into the semi-finals.
Final Four: For the third time there was a Final Four tournament, the semifinals and finals was held on 26 and 27 May 2012 at the Lanxess Arena in Cologne. The semi-final was played in the all-in - system. The winners of each game moved into the final. The loser of each game moved into the play-off for third place. It was per semifinals played only one game. Also, the final and the third place match was played on easy mode.
Qualification
The draw for the qualifying took place in Vienna on June 27, 2011. It was attended by 20 teams, who had previously qualified for the competition.
Qualified Teams
Each of the three sides of a pot was distributed to a group of one to three. It never came, two teams from a pot into a group. The clubs RK Brskovo Mojkovac from Montenegro and AS Conversano from Italy were eligible, but did not report for the Champions League, so the qualifications needed to be changed and it is now only three instead of four groups. Thus, the Polish club Wisła Płock was placed directly on the qualification to the group stage. The association ZTR Zaporozhye from Ukraine could no longer participate in the Champions League. The group W was made up of teams that should the EHF according raise the level of the Champions League. There five teams had registered for the wildcard tournament. On 17-18. June, it was decided that the Danish club Skjern Håndbold was not allowed to participate in this tournament.

The draw for the first knockout round matches took place on 28 February 2012 at 11:00 clock (UTC 1) in Hørsholm instead. In the second round ever met a group first to a group Fourth ( = half A ) and a second in the group to a group of third parties ( = half B ) of another group. The group winners and runners-up had the right to discharge the second leg at home. The first legs took place on 14./15./17./18. March 2012, the return matches on 18./24./25. March 2012.
