1976–77 DDR-Oberliga

The 1976/77 season was the 28th edition of the East German Oberliga. Champion for the fifth time, the SG Dynamo Dresden, which thus her title from the previous season defensively. The season began on September 4, 1976, and ended on May 21, 1977.

Course of the season

For the last time in the league history, the league was dominated by the three clubs from Jena, Dresden and Magdeburg. At the end of Dresden became a master and thus defended his title last year, while Magdeburg and Jena placed behind it. The decision for the championship was on the 25th Round in a direct duel between Magdeburg and Dresden. Goals

In the 182 point games were 500 goals, an average of 2.75 per game. The highest-scoring game with nine hits found between Dynamo Dresden and Rot-Weiss Erfurt 7:2 held on 20th matchday. The biggest win was a 7-0 against bismuth chemistry of HFC floodplain.

Joachim Streich from 1 FC Magdeburg became the top scorer in the league. It was his first of four scorer crown, a feat the next to him only Hans -Jürgen Kreische, this time with 13 hits second in the scoring charts reached.

A total of 2.5165 million viewers watched the 182 league games, which gives an average of 13,827 spectators per game. Player of the year

After the season was awarded for the first time as a footballer of the year 1977 Hans -Jürgen Dörner of the SG Dynamo Dresden. Dörner was involved as captain of the Dresden instrumental in their successful seasons and beyond, won last year as captain of the football Olympic team of the GDR, the gold medal at the Olympic football tournament. He cited last year's winner Jürgen Croy to second place.

Fdgb Cup

The fdgb Cup was won this season by the Master Dynamo Dresden, for the second time after 1971 managed a double. The final was won against the Dresdner Titelverteiger 1 FC Locomotive Leipzig, but who nevertheless qualified by the finals of the international competition.

International Competitions

The European Cup season was very different for each DDR participants. While locomotive Leipzig ( in the European Cup Winners' Cup against Heart of Midlothian ) and the BFC Dynamo ( in the UEFA Cup against Shakhtar Donetsk ) were eliminated in the very first round, managed Dynamo Dresden ( in the European Champions Cup ) and Magdeburg ( in the UEFA Cup ) to the quarterfinals. Dresden was eliminated on away goals against FC Zurich, while the later Magdeburg twice Cup winners Juventus defeated. The Intertoto Cup 1976 took place again without DDR participation.
