Up to 13 lap Regazzoni came past Scheckter and Laffite and thus took the second rank behind his teammate Jones. For the rest of the race, the two held their positions, and thus introduced the first double victory in the team's history Williams safely.

Gilles Villeneuve, who had long lain behind Laffite and Scheckter in fifth place, had this position in round 27 briefly dispose to Niki Lauda, since he had to drive the speakers due to a defect at its rear wing.
