Jan Lammers

Johannes " Jan" Lammers, ( born June 2, 1956 in Zandvoort ) is a former Dutch racing driver and team owner. He played 23 Formula 1 races, was winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the 24- hour race at Daytona and owner of A1 Team Netherlands.

Career

After Lammers 1978 decided the championship of the European Formula 3 series for himself, he succeeded in the following year of entry into Formula 1 in the British Team Shadow. After a regular season in the low Shadow DN9 no championship points Lammers denied the seasons 1980 and 1981 for the German team ATS. However, this team was not competitive and Lammers mostly failed to qualify for the race and recorded no finish in the points themselves. 1982 Lammers was finally reported for six Grands Prix in Theodore team from Hong Kong, but he managed only a qualification for the race, which he could not finish, however, because of an engine problem.

After these disappointing four years in Formula 1 Lammers joined the American Champ Car series and a short time later in the sports car scene.

Height of his career in motorsport was the victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans together with Andy Wallace and Johnny Dumfries in 1988. Lammers sat a total of 13 of the 24 Hours at the wheel of the Jaguar XJR -9 LM.

In 1992 Lammers succeeded surprisingly a comeback with the British team in March of Formula 1. He replaced the Austrian Karl Wendlinger for the final two races of the season. Lammers had already signed a contract for the coming season in 1993 March. However, since the team was unable to pay, he could not deny the season, which ended his Formula 1 career final.

In 1994, Lammers in a Volvo 850 in the British Touring Car Championship, in part, which he finished in 14th place in the overall standings.

In 1999, Lammers his own team Racing for Holland, where he went to the start in the FIA ​​Sportscar Championship. Since 2005 he has also owner of A1 Team Netherlands.

Lammers also took part in all three races of the Grand Prix Masters, where his best result was seventh place at the Losail International Circuit in Qatar.
