1980 Mundialito
Mundialito (literally: small world championship in Germany Super Cup, Mini Cup or Gold Cup called ) was one of 30 December 1980 to 10 January 1981 in Montevideo ( Uruguay) material discharged football tournament. It was done to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the staging of World Cup Soccer Championships. Participants should all previous world champions. Since England canceled as world champion in 1966, moved by the two-time runners-up the previous two World Championships with the Netherlands. All matches were played at the Estadio Centenario in Montevideo, capital of Uruguay.
Uruguay won the tournament in the final against Brazil. The German team different devoid of points from the first round and had to go to the record streak of 23 games without defeat suffered their first defeat under national coach Jupp, outfitted. The 1:4 against Brazil was the heaviest defeat after losing the 3rd place match in the 1958 World Cup. The other two European teams could not win a game.

Mode
The six teams were divided into two groups of three teams. After a simple every - for-all, the two group winners played in the finals of the tournament winner.

For Wolfgang Dremmler the game against Brazil was the debut for the national team, for Rainer Bonhof and Mirko Votava it were the last missions. Even Kurt not used Niedermayer came afterwards to any further international duty. Eight members of the squad were 18 months later in the World Cup final.
