1988–89 DDR-Oberliga

The 1988/89 season was the 41st edition of the East German football championship. Master was the SG Dynamo Dresden. It was after 1953, 1971, 1973, 1976, 1977 and 1978, the seventh championship for Dynamo Dresden.

The championship question was already decided after 23 match day, when the chief perpetrators, the Berliner FC Dynamo, lost with 2:4 at the 1 FC Locomotive Leipzig and Dynamo Dresden at FC Hansa Rostock with a 2-2 draw the last point necessary to championship win fetched. With the title of Dresdner years of national dominance of the BFC Dynamo came to an end, who won ten times in a row the championship this season, but reached only the runner-up.

Descending into the DDR -Liga had after four years of excellence 1.FC Union Berlin and the League newcomer BSG Sachsenring Zwickau.

The scorers led to the end of the season Dresdner Torsten Gütschow to his teammate Ulf Kirsten.
