The 1988/89 season was the 52nd season of the Hungarian Hockey League, the highest Hungarian Hockey League. Champion for the 19th time in the club's history Ferencvárosi TC.

Mode

In the main round each of the seven teams completed a total of twelve games. The top four teams qualified for the final round, the top two teams to qualify for the championship final. The other three teams denied a placement round. The main round results were incorporated into the second season phase. For a win, each team was given two points, a draw there was a point and a defeat.
