2008–09 OB I bajnoksag season

The 2008/09 season was the 72th season of the Hungarian Hockey League, the highest Hungarian Hockey League. Master became the total tenth time in the club's history Alba Volán Székesfehérvár.

Mode

The League was held with a total of five teams in the form of main round, second round and playoffs semifinals, finals and various placement rounds. In parallel, ran for the first time the international competition of the MOL League (see MOL Liga 2008 /09). To keep the number of games at a tolerable level, was the main round of the Hungarian league only of the evaluated in a separate table purely Hungarian encounters. It was not until the second round and in time after the end of the MOL League in February 2011 own encounters of the Hungarian League were played.

Alba Volán Székesfehérvár operated a farm team this season; the combat team that participated at the same time at the Erste Bank Hockey League, pushed until the beginning of the semi-final was fixed to the competition and qualified. Theoretically, an encounter between first and second team would have been possible, but not what it was.

Main Round

The twenty encounters each of the main round consisted of purely Hungarian MOL Encounters of the league that counted separately here. In both tables, but the teams appear in the same order. Furthermore, a total of twelve games ( two per team ) played against the Hungarian U20 national team, but played out of competition and only one of its meetings, was a 9-0 win against the farm team of Alba Volánbusz win. Another point was added from a shootout loss to Miskolci JJSE.

Second round

For the second round nine, six and three bonus points were awarded to the top three teams in the main round. A simple round-trip round to determine the final placement for the playoffs followed.

Pre- Playoffs

In the pre- playoffs, the three participants were identified for the semi-finals ( as the fourth team was added in the first team of Alba Volán Székesfehérvár ). To this end, the pairings first played against the sixth, second to fifth and third against fourth of a best-of -three series.

Semifinal

The actual playoffs began with the semi-final series. This occurred on the first-placed Újpesti TE against the Budapest Stars, while newcomers Alba Volánbusz with Dunaújvárosi Acélbikák had the schlechtplatzierteste team to the opponent. In both series, the favorites were participated.

Final

The final series ran for five games, of which Alba Volánbusz won four. The away win Újpesti TE was also the last defeat Fehérvárs in the playoffs up to and including 2010/11. Alba Volánbusz was thus able to win the tenth title; It was also the seventh in the series.

Series for third place

The two losing teams in the semi finals played a series of third place. Here the team from Dunaújváros could smoothly pass through with three wins in three games.

Placement matches

The teams ranked five to seven played a simple return to round out the final placement, the farm team of the master empty-handed. The Under-18 national team of Hungary also took part in this series and completed six games, one of which was won against Alba Volánbusz 5-2. These games were not counted in the table.

The title of this season was also the last championship win for Gábor Ocskay who died of a heart attack a few days after the season. Ocskay had been one of the leading players of the team for many years; his honor bears the club today his shirt number 19 in the name.
