In the championship in 1998/99, the SK Sturm Graz could successfully defend his title and was crowned for the second time to the Austrian football champions. Although the points lead was not nearly as big as last year, the decision was made with a 3-0 home win over FC Tirol on the last day but without trembling. A stir while other clubs attended. After the beginning of the season of SV Spittal had successfully appealed against the participation of Vorwärts Steyr - the latter had unjustifiably meadow obtain a license from the Premier League - they decided to compromise to have to start both teams. With the beginning of the season, however, this decision was surprisingly at an extraordinary general meeting tilted and Spittal placed in the First Division - made possible by a high financial compensation. During the season, again came the LASK Linz by the "Rieger " scandal in the headlines. Nevertheless, we succeeded the residents of Linz to qualify as Cupfinalist together with the GAK for the UEFA Cup in 2000, while storm and Rapid participated in qualifying for the Champions League 2000. The most successful club of the four was storm that came up in the main round and there celebrated victories against Croatia Zagreb and Olympique Marseille. The third place eligible for further participation in the UEFA Cup, in which the scarce blow came after extra time against AC Parma.
