2007 Solheim Cup

The Solheim Cup 2007 was the tenth edition of the Solheim Cup and was held from 14 to 16 September at Halmstad GK in Halmstad, Sweden. There was a three -day tournament for each 12 best golfers of the United States and Europe. The U.S. team won the trophy with 16:12 and thus defending the Solheim Cup.

Mode

A total of 28 games were played as match play, which distributed as follows among the individual days:

  • Day 1 (Friday): four foursomes in the morning and four in the afternoon Four Balls
  • Day 2 ( Saturday): four foursomes in the morning and four in the afternoon Four Balls
  • Day 3 (Sunday): twelve individual

For a won match, a point was awarded. For a split match, each team received a half-point. Europe needed 14 points to win the Solheim Cup. The United States needed 14.5 points to defend the Solheim Cup.

Men

The teams in the United States and Europe were selected by various methods.

When Team Europe the five best players from the LET Solheim Cup rankings as well as the four best European- LET players in the Rolex World Ranking, which had not already qualified on the LET Solheim Cup ranking were selected. To this end, three more players were nominated by the captain. Points for the LET Solheim Cup ranking could be obtained by the top 10 rankings on the official LET events.

For the U.S. team is qualified by collecting points for wins and top-20 finishes on the LPGA Tour in a period of two years. The points were counted from the State Farm Classic 2005 until the Safeway Classic in 2007. The ten players with the most points were automatically nominated for the Team of the United States. Two additional players were selected by the captain Betsy King after the Safeway Classic on August 26, 2007.
