- Hiero II of Syracuse is once again returning to the Mamertines, a Campanian mercenaries who holds the Sicilian city of Messana occupied.

- The Chinese state Qin attacked Han, which then allied himself with the powerful northern state of Zhao.
- 265 BC: Ashoka, ruler of the Indian Mauryan Empire, which extends over almost the whole of India, begins a very bloody campaign against Kalinga (now Orissa ).
