The Abitibi River is a river in northeastern Ontario, Canada.
It flows from Lake Abitibi in the northwest and flows into the Moose River, which flows to the James Bay. The Abitibi River has - measured from the end of Lac Lois - a length of about 540 km.
The river once formed an important route in the fur trade of the Hudson's Bay Company. Today, the wood and paper industry is an important factor in the heavily wooded region through which the Abitibi River flows.
The Abitibi River flows past the city over Iroquois Falls, which was named for the nearby waterfalls on the river.
