Description

Vegetative characteristics

The Actinidia species are lianas. The aboveground plant parts are hairy with simple or stellate trichomes or glabrous. There are usually lenticels present. The small winter buds may be enveloped by the swollen base of the petioles.

The leaves are divided into many long petioles and leaf blades. The simple leaf blades are papery, membranous or leathery. The leaf margin is smooth, toothed or serrated. Stipules are only tiny or missing.

Generative features

The flowers are single or a few to many together in zymösen pendent inflorescences. There are tiny bracts present. The species are dioecious getrenntgeschlechtig ( dioecious ) or monoecious with hermaphrodite flowers. The flowers are usually fünfzählig double perianth ( perianth ). The buds cover of cup - like petals is dachziegelig ( imbricat ). The (two to six) usually five sepals may be fused at their base. The (four to more than five) usually five petals are usually white or pink, rarely red, yellow or green. There are many stamens present. The stamens are narrow. The functionally female flowers often have staminodes with short stamens, functionally male flowers have redimentäre stylus. The yellow, brown, purple or almost black anthers of two counters open with slots. 15 to 30 carpels are fused into an ovoid, cylindrical or flask-shaped, vielkammerigen ovary and may be hairy or smooth. Each ovary chamber contains many ovules. There are the same number of free pen as carpels present.

It will be smooth or hairy, fleshy, round, ovoid to oblong formed berries with numerous seeds. The tiny elongated seeds contain a relatively large, cylindrical, straight, and two short embryo cotyledons ( cotyledons ).

Dissemination and use

Native is the genus Actinidia in East Asia, the area ranges from Sakhalin through Siberia, Japan, Korea and China to the Himalayas and Malaysia. Varieties of some species are cultivated as a fruit, such as Scharfzähniger rays stylus ( Actinidia arguta ), the Chinese rays stylus ( Actinidia chinensis and Actinidia deliciosa).
