Ada den Haan

Adelaide Henriette den Haan ( born May 14, 1941 in Eindhoven ) is a former Dutch swimmer. In the 1950s, she was one of the best swimmers of their country.

Den Haan coached at the clubs Het Gooi Naarden and PSV Eindhoven. In November 1956, she improved the five and a half year-old world record of the Hungarian Éva Novák over 200 m breaststroke by more than two seconds and was with this performance as a top favorite for the Olympic Summer Games 1956 in Melbourne. However, the boycott of the Netherlands because of the violent suppression of the Hungarian uprising by the Soviet Red Army nullified these hopes.

The following European Championships 1958 in Budapest she won the title over 200 m breaststroke and the 4 × 100 m medley relay. Two years later she had to deal with two fourth places over 200 m breaststroke and the 4 × 100 m medley relay satisfied at the Olympic Games in Rome in 1960.

After the end of her career, she married the swimming coach Martien Swinkels.
