Agnes Giebel

Agnes Giebel ( born August 10, 1921 in Heerlen, Netherlands ) is a German soprano.

Life

Agnes Giebel was born in the Netherlands and spent their first years of life.

In 1925 she returned with her parents to food, from where the family herstammte, and remained there until the early 1950s. After school she first attended a commercial college. Over a chance the head of the local children's choir became aware of the unusual voice of Agnes Giebel, 1933, when she sang a recital works by Richard Strauss and Max Reger. She made the initial resistance of her parents that Agnes Giebel was able to study at the Folkwang School in Essen with Hilde Wesselmann singing. 1947 Agnes Giebel began her professional career as a concert singer.

Due to the great success it was in 1950 engaged by the RIAS Berlin, where they often also made recordings later, for a weekly series of Bach cantatas. During this time she also went on concert tours with the St. Thomas Boys Choir under the direction of Günther Ramin. Agnes Giebel is one of the few singers who was successful and famous only because of a concert repertoire. She has never sung in operas staged.

Her career lasted into the 1990s and gave rise to an extensive discography. Throughout her career she has worked with many conductors such as Karl Richter, Theodor Egel, Eugen Jochum, Wolfgang Sawallisch, Sergiu Celibidache, as well as, for example, with the singers Marga Höffgen, Dietrich Fischer- Dieskau and Hermann Prey.

Gable sang mainly sacred works ( cantatas, oratorios, passions, masses ) and was considered one of the best Bach singers of her generation. As a recital singer stepped gable, among other things together with the pianist Sebastian Peschko. She is also seen in the famous BBC recording of the Ninth Symphony by Beethoven Otto Klemperer (1964).
