AIM-97 Seekbat

The U.S. Air Force initiated in 1972 a program to develop a high-flying long-range air - to-air missile. The rocket later became known as the AIM -97 Seekbat based on the AGM -78 Standard ARM. In contrast to this the Seekbat had a larger rocket motor and the original radar seeker head has been replaced by an infrared seeker head. Already the end of 1972 began the first test launch under the name XAIM -97. The development of Seekbat was discontinued in early 1976.
