Air Algérie (Arabic: الخطوط الجوية الجزائرية ) is an Algerian airline based in Algiers and based on the Algiers airport.

History

Air Algérie was founded in 1947 as Société de Construction Aéronautique Algérienne - founded Air Algérie. The company today holds 49% of the Tassili Airlines. For the year 2011, extensive modernization work on the fleet, including new cabins, announced a total volume of 400 million euros.

Objectives

In addition to numerous national and North African connections, the Company uses a number of international destinations, including Basel, Berlin, Montreal, Brussels, Frankfurt, Geneva, London and Paris.

In addition, maintains Air Algérie codeshare agreements with several other companies, including Air Canada, Air China, Alitalia, Korean Air and Turkish Airlines.

As of December 2013, the fleet of 42 aircraft from Air Algérie is with a mean age of 10.1 years:

Incidents

  • On 21 December 1994 a Boeing 737- 200F crashed as cargo flight 702 en route from East Midlands Airport shortly before landing in Coventry from, all five crew members on board died.
  • On March 6, 2003, a Boeing 737-200 crashed on flight 6289 from Tamanrasset to Algiers due to an engine failure shortly after takeoff. Of the 103 people on board, only a passenger survived the accident.
  • On August 13, 2006, a cargo plane Lockheed Hercules on the road from Algiers to Frankfurt am Main crashed near the Italian town of Piacenza, the three crew members did not survive the disaster.
