Akita Prefecture

The Akita Prefecture (Japanese秋田 県, Akita-ken ) is a prefecture of Japan. It is located in the Tōhoku region on the island of Honshu. Seat of the prefectural government is the city of Akita.

Geography

Akita is located in the north of the island of Honshu to the Japan Sea in the west. To the north is bordered by the Akita, Aomori Prefecture, to the east by the Iwate Prefecture, on the southeast by the Miyagi Prefecture and on the south by the Yamagata Prefecture.

Summer is in the country compared relatively pleasant and cool. From the end of November, it smelled very often. The winter months are characterized by strong winds from Siberia.

Economy

Akita Prefecture is a predominantly rural, in their low-lying areas of large-scale rice farming dominates the landscape. The Sake production occupies an important place. In addition to the capital of the prefecture Akita Daisen is an important economic center dar. On the coast around the peninsula of Oga and southern Kisakata regional fishing ports. In the north and in the mountainous regions of the forestry plays an important role.

Governor of Akita is Norihisa Satake, previously mayor of Akita. He solved after the gubernatorial election from 2009 Sukeshiro terata and was re-elected in 2013 without a vote for a second term. In the regular 45 -strong Prefecture Parliament, the Liberal Democratic Party holds an absolute majority after the elections in April 2011.

For the lower house of the national parliament Akita is divided into three electoral districts, which are held after the landslide victory of the Liberal Democratic Party in 2012, all three of the Liberal Democrats. In the House of Lords two MPs representing the prefecture, after the elections of 2010 and 2013 both Liberal Democrats.

Akita is financially weakest prefectures in the country and, by the " financial strength index " ( zaiseiryoku Shisu ) finance less than 30 % of its theoretical needs from its own funds.

Tourism

Near the Tazawa lake are hot springs (onsen ) that apply in Japan as a popular tourist destination. There are some seasonal festivals ( Matsuri ), providing an insight into the rural and traditional Japan.

Kakunodate (now Semboku ) is a beautiful old city with many samurai houses well preserved.
