Al Perkins

Al Perkins ( born January 18, 1944 in Texas ) is an American musician and producer. He played guitar, pedal steel guitar and dobro on the productions of many renowned artists and in 2001 was appointed by the guitar company Gibson for " most influential Dobro player in the world ".

Life

At age nine, Perkins learned the Hawaiian steel guitar and played in the 1960s in different bands in west Texas. After his military service, he was a member of Shiloh Group and from 1971, the Flying Burrito Brothers, on their latest album Last Of The Red Hot Burritos he participated. In 1972, he joined together with the burrito - mate Chris Hillman of the new band by Stephen Stills, Manassas, where he recorded two LPs with the. The group of highly talented musicians was, with its program of country, rock, blues and Latin -influenced pieces, as one of the most accomplished formations of rock music history, but already solved in 1973 on the back.

After the dissolution of Manassas viewed Perkins and Hillman turned to a new project. With Richie Furay and JD Souther and some Manassas colleagues, they founded the Souther -Hillman - Furay band that recorded from 1973 to 1975, two albums and then disbanded.

1984 and 1985, Perkins was heard on two albums of Christian singer Don Francisco and played with Chris Hillman at the same time Christian Bluegrass in the band Ever Call Ready one. Shortly thereafter, he joined Hillman's Desert Rose Band and 1986 the live band by Dolly Parton. In the same year he played on the album Knocked Out Loaded Bob Dylan.

He became a member of a new project by Emmylou Harris, The Nash Ramblers in 1992. In 2009 he founded, along with Brady Blade and Chris Donohue, the trio Big Dog 3, which recorded an eponymous album with guest musicians from the band by Emmylou Harris in the same year. This year, Al Perkins was also involved in the debut album of the singer Otis Gibbs from Indiana. The CD entitled " Grandpa Walked A Picketline " and removed therefrom single " Caroline " he played alongside the Dobro and pedal steel guitar.

The guitar company Gibson produced since 2001 the Al Perkins Signature Dobro, designed by the artist himself and with his signature.
