Aleksandrs Samoilovs

Aleksandrs Samoilovs ( born April 6, 1985 in Riga) is a Latvian beach volleyball player.

Career

After Samoilovs had already participated in the Youth World Cup in 2003, he was in the same competition in 2004 in Porto Santo with Mārtiņš Plavins fifth. 2006 played Samoilovs three open tournaments with Ruslan Sorokin and then came back with Plavins. In Roseto degli Abruzzi, the first came when the Latvians in the top ten of an open tournament. At the World Championships in Gstaad Latvians retired after three defeats from 1:2 in the first round. The following year they made at the start of the Olympic tournament in Beijing for a stir when they defeated the reigning world champion Rogers / Dalhausser from the U.S.; in the second round they lost then the Austrians Gosch / Horst.

Samoilovs then formed a new duo with Sorokin. At the 2009 World Championships in Stavanger Samoilovs / Sorokin came a second group in the knockout stage and in the second round Rogers / Dalhausser succeeded revenge. In the same year they reached the final of the Kristiansand Open. In 2010 she managed various places ninth at Grand Slams and Open tournaments. In the second round of the European Championships in Berlin they could see the current world champion Brinkmann / Recker man overcome before they lost to the Austrians Doppler / Mellitzer and finished fifth. In 2011 she reached the first main round of the World Championships in Rome and failed in the tiebreak to the Brazilians Ferramenta / Pedro. At the 2012 Olympic Games in London Samoilovs / Sorokin occupied ninth place.

Since 2013 Aleksandrs Samoilovs plays together with Jānis Šmēdiņš. Šmēdiņš / Samoilovs reached on the FIVB World Tour 2013 almost all top ten finishes and was Vice European Champion in Klagenfurt.
