Alex Chernov

Alex Chernov ( born May 12, 1938 in Lithuania) is an Australian lawyer and current Governor of Victoria.

Life

Chernov was born in Lithuania, the son of Russian parents who are still attracted to him at his school days to Salzburg. 1949 the family emigrated to Australia, where he attended Melbourne High School. Thereafter, he completed a business degree in 1961 and in 1968 a law degree from the University of Melbourne.

After studying Chernov worked as a lawyer for Business Law. In 1980 he was appointed Attorney-General. In 2009 he was elected Chancellor of the University of Melbourne.

On 8 April 2011 Chernov was sworn in as 28th Governor of Victoria.

He is married and has three children.
