Charles Henry Darling

Sir Charles Henry Darling, KCB ( born February 19, 1809 in Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia, Canada, † January 25, 1870 in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, England ) was a British colonial administrator.

Biography

Charles Darling was born into a family of colonial administrators. His maternal grandfather Charles Cameron was governor of the Bahamas. His father Henry Charles Darling was governor of Tobago, while his uncle was Sir Ralph Darling Governor of Mauritius and New South Wales.

Charles Darling 1841 was Governor of Barbados. Later, he was from 1848 to 1852 Vice- Governor (Lieutenant Governor ) of Saint Lucia, before he was Deputy Governor from 1852 to 1855 and as such acting governor of the Cape Colony in 1854. In his honor, the city was founded in 1853 Darling was named in South Africa.
