Henry Winneke

Sir Henry Arthur Winneke ( born October 20, 1908 in Melbourne, Australia, † 28 December 1985) was the chairman of the Supreme Court of Victoria and Governor of Victoria.

Life

Winneke was born in 1908 as the son of a judge with German roots, Henry Christian Winneke, in Melbourne's Fitzroy North. In 1930 he graduated from law school at the University of Melbourne from the master. From 1931 he worked as a barrister. At the outbreak of World War II in 1939, he joined the Royal Australian Air Force. In 1941 he was promoted to Group Captain ( Colonel ).

After 1945 Winneke took his Practising barrister again. In 1949 he was appointed Attorney-General, and two years later to the Attorney General ( Solicitor - General ) of Victoria. In 1964, he finally received the post of chairman of the Supreme Court of Victoria. In 1974 he resigned thereof, as had been offered as Governor of Victoria him the place. This office he held until 1982.

Winneke was married twice and left two sons.
