Algo Kärp

Algo Kärp ( born April 13, 1985 in Tarvastu, then Estonian SSR, Soviet Union) is an Estonian cross-country skier.

Life and career

After a fifth place in the sprint at the Nordic Championship 2003 in Sysslebäck and an insert in the Continental Cup, Kärp started at the Junior World Championship 2004 in Stryn. About 30 km classic ( mass start ), he finished 37th place and 10-kilometer freestyle 63rd place. A year later he was in Rovaniemi 21 in the sprint and 49th in the pursuit competition. His first try at the Cross Country World Cup had Kärp in January 2006 in the domestic Otepaeae. About 15 km classic, he was 50th out of 57 starters and 41 missed as clearly qualifying for the finals in the sprint competition. In the U23 World Cup 2006 in Kranj his best result of 39th place over 15 km was classic. In the season 2006/ 07 he had some bets in the World Cup and the Scandinavian Cup. However, his best result of the season was the 14th place over 63 km at Tartu Maraton in Otepaeae. In the U23 World Cup 2008 in Malles he persuaded classic with a 13th place over 15 kilometers. The following year he was nominated by the Estonian Ski Association for the Tour de Ski. In the mass start competition in Val di Fiemme about 20 kilometers he managed a 20th place and thus for the first time the profit of the World Cup points. At the end of the tour he took 41st place out of 54 starters. This secured him a place in the Estonian team at the Nordic World Ski Championships 2009 in Liberec, where he finished in 57th position about 15 km classic. Also in the 2009/10 season Kärp took part in the Tour de Ski, where he could run twice in the points. This classic succeeded him as 29 over 15 km at the World Cup in the domestic Otepaeae. With these results, he qualified for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver. In the Estonian championship he won his first national championship title during his last mission before the Olympics. In pursuit competition over 30 kilometers, he sat down at the finish sprint before Andrus Veerpalu and Kaspar Kokk by. His only use in a single competition at the Olympics had Kärp the 50 km classic ( mass start ). In the end, he finished in 41st place. With the Estonian season, he finished 14th place. Before the start of the Tour de Ski 2010/2011 Kärp was busy due to an excessively high hemoglobin value with a five-day protective barrier so that he could not participate in the tour.
