Tour de Ski

Tour de Ski [ ˌ tuʀdəski ] is a competitive cross-country skiing over several days and is based on the same concept as the stage race in cycling. The event is part of the Cross-Country Skiing World Cup, and finds the end of December to early January. The participants deny 8 races in 10 days. The competition was late 2006/early held for the first time in 2007. The competition includes races in both classic and free technique.

Conceived the Tour de Ski by the Swiss Jürg Capol and the former Norwegian cross country skier Vegard Ulvang following the Tour de France 2004.

Regulations 2006/2007

The winner of the Tour will receive 400 points for the overall World Cup. The subsequent finishers also get 4 times the score against a single race. In the individual stages no World Cup points will be awarded. For the general classification, the times are added together. There is also a sprint standings.

In addition, there are bonus seconds for the best of each race, depending on the type of race. The winner of a sprint gets credited 30 seconds 50 seconds, the second 40 seconds, and the third party. Bonus seconds will be awarded up to 30th place. For longer races, such as the Skiathlon, there are intermediate sprints, where the first three Zeitbonifikationen ( 15, 10 and 5 seconds ) were obtained.

The leader of the general classification wears a gold jersey, the leader of the Sprint Appreciation a silver.

It is awarded a cash prize of 1 million Swiss francs.

Changes in the regulations for the Tour de Ski 2007/2008

Since the Tour de Ski 2007/2008, there are more bonus seconds for the top finishers in the sprint. The winner will now receive 60 bonus seconds, the second 56 and the third party shall be credited 52 seconds.

Also new is that there are now also available for the victory of a single stage of World Cup points. Here, the Fifteenth of the first 50 points, the second 40 points, third receives 30 points, ..., finally 8 points. However, these points are only awarded when you cross the finish line of the last Tour de Ski race, the Tour would be completely finished.

Only since the second tour 2007/2008 there is also a time limit: In the women's winning time may be exceeded by more than 18%, in the men by more than 15 %. The time limit may, however, be extended by the jury in extreme weather conditions.

In addition, is run for the first time at the Tour Team Cup, to the best team in the Tour de Ski win. For the times of the two best men and women are added every nation in every race. The nation, which thereby has the fastest time wins the Tour Team Cup.
