Ali Carter

Allister "Ali" Carter ( born July 25, 1979 in Colchester, Essex ) is an English snooker player. His nickname, The Captain makes reference to the fact that Carter is in possession of a valid commercial pilot license.

Career

Carter gave his professional debut in 1996. The first time attention to himself he made when he reached the semifinals of the Grand Prix in Preston 1999. His greatest success before 2006 was in 1999 winning the Benson & Hedges Championship, a qualifying tournament for the Masters.

Carter was elected in the 1999/2000 season for WPBSA Newcomer of the Year.

In the Snooker World Championship 2007, he reached the quarter- finals and was defeated there by 12:13 Mark Selby frames. During this World Cup, he played with a series of 144 points be until then highest break.

In the 2008 Snooker World Championship he succeeded on 29 April in the quarter-final against Peter Ebdon his first official maximum break. For the first time in the history of snooker there are two maximum breaks have been played in the finals of a tournament ( the first one did Ronnie O'Sullivan the day before ) so that the units awarded for a maximum premium had to be shared. Carter reached there the first time the finals of a world ranking tournament, where he defeated O'Sullivan with 8:18. After this tournament, Carter was first performed under the 8 best in the official world rankings.

In the Northern Ireland Trophy Carter was defeated in 2008 in the semifinals again Ronnie O'Sullivan ( 5:6 ), in the semi-finals of UK Championship he lost to Marco Fu in 2009 with 7:9. In the Welsh Open he reached the finals, where he won his first title at a world ranking tournament with a 9-5 victory over Joe Swail.

In December 2009 he played at the UK Championship quarter- finals his 100th Century Break. Carter was only the 32th player who had managed hundred Centuries. In the Welsh Open, he was again in the final, but could not defend his title against John Higgins. At the World Championship, he reached the semi-finals as well as at the China Open. He closed the season as world ranking fourth.

The first ranking tournament of the 2010/11 season, the Shanghai Masters, he played at first to the quarterfinals, where he almost knocked out by the Welsh Matthew Stevens. However, he could still shoot a 1:4 residue to a 5-4 win and win with victories over Mark Selby and Jamie Burnett his second title on the main tour. This he pushed himself in the world ranking up to rank 2 before.

The World Snooker Championship 2012 Carter reached the final, where he defeated O'Sullivan again, this time with 11:18.

In February 2013 he triumphed at the German Masters in Berlin by a 9:6 final against Marco Fu.

Personal

2003 was diagnosed with Ali Carter Crohn's disease. His girlfriend Sarah brought on 1 October 2009 a son ( Max ) to the world.

On 1 July 2013 it was announced that in his testicular cancer was diagnosed.
