German Masters

The German Masters (formerly the German Open) is a professional snooker tournament, which is one of the tournaments of the snooker main tour.

History

The German Open championship between 1995 and 1997 and had the status of a world ranking tournament of the main tour. The former host cities were Frankfurt, Osnabrück and Bingen. After the event had lost the status of a world ranking tournament, it was in 1998 again held under the name of German Masters. Then it was discontinued.

As of 2004, the Grand Prix Fürth (later renamed Paul Hunter Classic) again performed a great snooker tournament in Germany. It initially had only pro-am status, since 2010, it is but as a minor ranking tournament part of the PTC series and thus belongs to the main tour.

During the 2010 World Cup was announced that in February 2011 a main tour event would take place at the Tempodrom in Berlin. The tournament then celebrated 2011 debut as a revived German Masters from 2nd to 6th February. During the five -day event, 14,000 paying spectators got to Tempodrom. The final was won by Mark J. Williams against Mark Selby.

2012, the number rose to 20,000 spectators. With PartyPoker.net also saw the first one eponymous main sponsor.
