Ambléon

Ambléon is a commune in the Ain in the Rhone-Alpes region of 112 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011).

Geography

The municipality lies at an altitude 330-940 meters. The distance to Belley is about twelve kilometers. The Lac d' Ambléon is a small lake west of Ambléon. The greenish mountain water has a high water quality.

History

The area was inhabited at the time of the Roman Empire. As word spread of Christianity after this period of the Crusades and colonization of the Middle Ages, this region was under the Archbishopric of Vienne, whose archbishop of Vienne Desiderius (St. Didier ) was. St Didier is still the patron saint of this church. It each year Mass is held in the Chapelle d' Ambléon in February on the second Sunday in honor. The chapel dates from the 13th century.
