American Football Association of Germany

The American Football Association of Germany eV ( AFVD ) is the umbrella organization for American football and cheerleading in Germany. It comprises around 450 clubs with more than 50,000 members are organized ( as at 1 January 2013: 50 162, 32 204 of them are male and 17,958 female), almost half of all American football player in Europe.

The AFVD was founded as a successor Federation of American Football Federation Germany ( AFBD ). The AFBD was due to internal differences and lack of liquidity on October 16, 1982 his resolution known. The association is divided into thirteen regional associations. Seat of AFVD is Frankfurt am Main.

The AFVD is also the umbrella organization for the cheerleading sport in Germany since 1992 and is aimed regular championships. Therefore, numerous cheerleading departments of other sports clubs (in particular in the areas of basketball, handball, ice hockey and football) a member of the American Football Association of Germany.

Events

The AFVD is in the men's organizer of the German Football League ( GFL ) and the German Football League 2 ( GFL2 ). In the women's field, he organized the Women's League ( DBL), at junior level, the German Football League Juniors ( GFLJ ) and in the German Flag Football Flag Football League ( DFFL ). Other leagues are looked after by the state associations.

The AFVD 2003 was the host of the 2nd Football World Cup in Hanau and Wiesbaden. In November 2009, the Association hosts the Cheerleading World Championships, which took place in Bremen. Venues for the American Football European Championship 2010, Frankfurt, Wetzlar and Wiesbaden.
