Amondans

Amondans is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Amondans is located on 497 m above sea level, approximately nine kilometers west-southwest of Ornans, 19 km south of the city of Besançon ( straight line ). The village is located in the Jura, on a plateau on the northern edge of the plateau of Amancey, south of the deep valley of the Loue.

The area of ​​5.68 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The central part of the area occupied by the plateau of Amondans, which is on average 500 m. It represents a northern extension of the plateau of Amancey and is partly composed of meadow land, partly by forest. Towards the south of the plateau increases slightly, so that here with 530 m the highest elevation of Amondans is achieved. The northern conclusion of the plateau forms the Grande Côte ( 527 m), which drops steeply to the Loue. Both in the West and in the East the plateau drops to the surrounding, deep erosion valleys. In the east, the border runs along the Ruisseau de la MÃ © e. The western boundary form of the Ruisseau de Malan (also Ruisseau d' Amondans ) in the Val Sainte -Marie and the Loue. Often the steep slopes of this erosion valleys will be crowned at the upper edge of striking, partly overhanging Kalkfelswänden.

Neighboring communities of Amondans are Cademène and Cléron in the north, Fertans and Malan in the south and Lizine and Rurey in the West.

History

Is first mentioned in the 13th century Amondans. In the Middle Ages the village belonged first to the Lords of Scey and later used to house Chalon- Arlay. Under the Mont Richard Amondans family was its own little rule in the 16th century. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. 1972 Amondans was merged with Cléron, Fertans Malan and the greater community Amancey, but received in 1978 his independence back. Since 1993 Amondans is a member of the comprehensive 19 villages municipal association Communauté de communes Amancey - Loue - Lison.

Attractions

With the construction of the present village church of Amondans was started in December 1805. Originally dating from the 16th century castle was remodeled in the 18th century. In the old town numerous farmhouses are obtained in the characteristic Jurassic style from the 17th to the 19th century.

Population

With 92 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Amondans is one of the smallest municipalities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1881 219 persons were still counted ), a slight population growth was recorded since the early 1980s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Amondans was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village.
