Malans (Doubs)

Malan is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Malan is on 435 m above sea level, about 11 km southwest of Ornans and 21 km south of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located in the Jura, south of Loue in a valley, in the two source streams of the Ruisseau de Malan flow together, at the northern foot of the Crimont.

The area of ​​10:49 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The central part of the area occupied by the basin of Malan, having a width of approximately one kilometer. From the south open two erosion valleys (Val d' Anchet and Val du Bief Tard ) in these boilers, which are separated by the narrow edge of the Bois de Crimont. The valley is drained by the Ruisseau de Malan north to the Loue. The slopes rise on both sides of the valley to steep and are different places crowned at the top of distinctive, partly overhanging Kalkfelswänden and projections. This lead on to the high plateau of Amancey. In the East the municipal boundary runs right at the top of Erosionstals, in the west, the area extends to the part with meadows, some with wood -lined plateau. With 595 meters, this plateau is reached the highest elevation of Malan's on the edge.

Neighboring communities of Malan are Amondans in the north, and Fertans Amancey the east and Éternoz and Lizine in the West.

History

Malan is first mentioned in the 12th century. It belonged since the Middle Ages to the rule Montmahoux, which was under the suzerainty of the lords of Chalon. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. By 1834 founded the Trappist monastery of Val Sainte- Marie, but left it after only a few years back. 1972 Malan was merged with Amondans, Cléron Fertans and the greater community Amancey, but received in 1980 his independence back. Since 1993, Malan is a member of the comprehensive 19 villages municipal association Communauté de communes Amancey - Loue - Lison.

Attractions

The village church of Malan was in 1643 built on the site of a medieval church. In Val Sainte -Marie guest house Trappist is only obtained, which today serves as a holiday camp. Opposite is a typical farm of the France- Comté, which is no longer fully managed today.

The guest house of the former monastery is situated on the road D 103 between Malan and Lizine.

Population

With 158 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Malan is one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1891 315 persons were still counted ), a slight population growth was recorded since the early 1980s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Malan was well into the 20th century, a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. In addition, there are today some of the local small business enterprises. Meanwhile, the village has also changed into a residential community. Many workers are commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares, however, is easily accessible from the secondary road D103 which leads from Cléron after Quingey. Further road links exist with Amancey and Éternoz.
