Andreas Castiglioni

Andreas Castiglioni ( born 2 May 1980 in Meran ) is a former Italian natural track luge. He became in 2004 Vice European Champion and 2005 Vice World Champion in the single-seater. In the World Cup he achieved two podium places and as the best overall result for fifth place in the season 2003/2004. He is married to Renate Kasslatter, which was also Naturbahnrodlerin. Castiglioni lives in Partschins.

Career

Castiglioni launched in 1998 as International Junior Championships and scored at the European Junior Championship 2000 in Obergurgl his first major success when he won the bronze medal in the single-seater behind Elmar Leitner and David Mair. In the same year he also took the first time in a World Championship in the general class part and finished in tenth place. In 2001, he took no part in the World Cup. His first World Cup race, which he finished in twelfth position, Castiglioni denied on January 24, 1999 Agordo. But during the next two years he came to no other world cup inserts.

From the 2001/2002 season Castiglioni was back in the World Cup at the start. He achieved four top 10 places and ended up with it in the World Cup in tenth place. The worst result of the season, he scored at the European Championships in 2002 in Frantschach, where he only finished 16. But in 2002 he was Italian Champion in single-seaters. In the World Cup season 2002/2003 Castiglioni competed in all six races into the top ten and reached the best result in fifth place in Moscow, which he finished ninth in the overall World Cup. In the 2003 World Cup in Železniki he drove in tenth place.

The World Cup season 2003/2004 was Castiglioni's most successful. With two second places in the first and in the last race, he scored his only podium finishes and with three other top-10 results, he finished fifth in the World Cup. At the 2004 European Championships in Huttau Castiglioni won the silver medal, as well as at the World Championship 2005 in Laces. In the World Cup but he did not reach the previous year's results in the 2004/2005 season. He played only three World Cup races where he came in the top 5 only once, and fell back in the overall standings to 14th.

From the season 2005/2006 Castiglioni took part only in a few World Cup races, but could rely mostly classify in the top ten. His last World Cup race, he denied January 31, 2009 in German oven. He started increasing in the Intercontinental won in the season 2006/2007 the overall standings and reached in the 2009/2010 season third overall. In the 2006 European Championship in Obergurgl Castiglioni was fifth. His next and last major event was the 2009 World Cup in moss pass in eggs, where he finished in eighth place.
