FIL World Luge Natural Track Championships 2009

The 17th FIL Natural Track Luge World Cup took place from 12 to 15 February 2009 in moss pass eggs in South Tyrol, Italy. The FIL awarded on 28 June 2007, the World Cup for the second time pass eggs and for the sixth time to South Tyrol.

The World Cup began on 12 February with the training runs before the team competition was held on February 13. The championship rounds in the doubles and single seaters took place on February 14. On 15 February, the World Cup has ended with the third round in the individual disciplines. The most successful was the Italian federation, which ruled all four competitions.

Single Seater Men

The Einsitzerbewerb the men won for the first time the Italians Patrick Pigneter after he already was third in 2005 and 2007. In this World Cup, it was Pigneters third victory since he won previously gold in doubles and with the team. Thomas Lander Chamber of Austria was after two passes in the lead, but lost in the third round 18 hundredths of a second to Patrick Pigneter and finally came up with four hundredths behind in second place. For him it was the first medal at a World Cup. Bronze was won by Austrian Thomas Schopf. For him, it was also the first individual medal, with the team he won two days earlier silver. The defending Gernot Schwab finished fifth.

Single Seater Ladies

Date: February 14 (1st and 2nd championship round ) and 15th February 2009 ( 3 championship round )

In single-seater of the ladies won with best times in the first two championship rounds, the Italian Renate Gietl. This was her first individual title at the World Cup, 2001 and 2005, she won silver and bronze, respectively. Second place went to Russian Ekaterina Lawrentjewa that was 2005 and 2007 world champion, but this time despite fastest time in the third round to catch up from the first two races just could no longer catch up. The bronze went to Italian photographer Renate Kasslatter, who won her first World Cup medal.

Two-seater

Date: 14 February 2009 ( both races )

In doubles competition won by the Italians Patrick Pigneter and Florian Clara with personal bests in two scoring passes. The respective second fastest time achieved the silver medalist Christian Schopf and Andreas Schopf from Austria and with the respective third-best time won Andrzej Laszczak and Damian Waniczek from Poland the bronze medal. For Laszczak / Waniczek it was the third bronze medal after 2000 and 2005. Duo Pigneter / Clara won his first doubles medal, as the duo Christian and Andreas Schopf. Andreas Schopf was in 2001 and 2003 World Champion along with Wolfgang Schopf. The defending champion Pawel Porschnew and Ivan Lazarev were ranked number four.

Team competition

Date: February 13, 2009

The team competition won with the highest number of points and the fastest total running time ( best time in the single-seater of the Lords and in doubles and second-best time in the single-seater the ladies) Team Italy I. Silver went to Team Austria I and bronze in the Team Russia I, the the fastest time in the women 's singles achieved. Number four ranked team Italy II in front of the same points Team Austria II, but which had a poorer overall runtime. Italy, Austria and Russia started with two teams; Bulgaria and Poland, each with one. In addition, two mixed teams participated with lugers of two nations.
