FIL World Luge Natural Track Championships 1990

The 7th FIL Natural Track Luge World Cup took place from 21 to 25 February 1990 in Gsies in South Tyrol ( Italy).

Single Seater Men

After the World Cup in 1988 had to be canceled due to weather conditions, the Austrian Gerhard Pilz defended his title successfully in 1986. The silver medal was won by Italian Corrado Herin, who was 1986 World Champion in doubles already and this year won silver in the doubles. In this single-seater was his only World Championship medal. Third was the Italians Harald Steinhauser, who had already won bronze in 1986.

Single Seater Ladies

The Austrian Jeanette Kopp Steiner, the year before already European Championship silver medalist, became the first world champion, did not come from Italy. The silver medal won by the Austrian Irene Koch, who had won just two bronze medals at the European Championships. By the third place in the Russian Lyubov Panjutina was not the first time at Natural Track Luge World Championships medal in Italy or Austria.

Two-seater

World Champion in doubles were the Italian Andreas Jud and Hannes Pichler. Jud had been in 1982 and 1984 together with Ernst upper hammer champion in doubles. For Pichler it was the only title and at the same time the only medal at the World and European Championships. The silver medal won by the defending champion Almir Betemps and Corrado Herin, also from Italy. Third place went to the Austrian Walter Mauracher and Georg Eberharter. For both it was their only medal at the World Championships.
