Manfred Danklmaier

Manfred Danklmaier is a former Austrian natural track luge. He started both in the single-seater and double seater and 1985 European champion in single-seaters.

Career

Danklmaier achieved in the late 1970s and in the 1980s a number of successes at major events. The first medals he won at the Junior European Championships 1979 in Lienzen. He was third in the single-seater and together with his brother Willi second in doubles, behind the Italian duo Hellweger / upper hammer. At the European Championships 1981 in Niedernsill he won again with his brother the bronze medal in doubles came in the single-seater but only ranked 24th At the European Championships 1983 in St. Konrad brothers missed as fourth in doubles only just a medal. In single-seater he was eleventh.

The biggest success Danklmaier at the European Championships in 1985 in the Polish Szczyrk when he became European Champion in the single-seater in front of the second placed Damiano Lugon and third-place finisher Robert Tomelitsch. In 1986 won the European Cup in Danklmaier Inzing in the single-seater and was at the World Championships in Fénis Seventh. At the European Championships 1987 in Jesenice, the defending champion did not come to the finish, two years later, he scored at the European Championships 1989 in Garmisch -Partenkirchen eighth. Until 1994 Danklmaier still took part in world championships, but no longer went into the top ten.
