Patrick Pigneter

Pigneter Patrick ( born July 19, 1987 in Bolzano ) is an Italian natural track luge. With four world titles, three European Cup titles, four titles at Junior World and European Championships, a total of 48 World Cup victories, including 28 in single-seat and 20 in doubles, seven World Cup victories in single-seaters and four overall World Cup victories in doubles, he is the most successful natural track luge the present. Pigneter lives in Fiè.

Career

Patrick Pigneter won his first race at the age of nine years. His father Raymond Pigneter was a successful natural track luge. It was 1980 World Champion and 1985 European Champion in doubles. The first international successes reach Patrick Pigneter in the 2003/2004 season, when he won the single-seater Appreciation of the Intercontinental Cup and was at the Junior World Championship 2004 in Kindberg second in the single-seater. One week after the Junior World Championships he first participated in championships in the general class. At the 2004 European Championships in Huttau he was sixth in the single-seater. Then he played in February 2004 his first two World Cup races, he finished seventh in each position.

Already in the following winter Pigneter pulled one back in the absolute world top. In December 2004, he celebrated in his third World Cup races, coinciding with compatriot Anton Blasbichler, the first win and another podium finish in Latzfons he achieved in the 2004/2005 season fourth overall in the single-seat World Cup. At the World Championship 2005 in Laces, he won the bronze medal in the single-seater and at the Junior European Championship 2005 silver medal in the single-seater and with Alexander Pamer the bronze medal in the doubles.

At the beginning of the season 2005/2006 Pigneter won his second World Cup race. He then scored the second place, which the then 18 -year-old for the first time won the overall World Cup in the single-seater with a lead of 20 points on the Austrian Gernot Schwab in all other races. In January 2006 Pigneter played with the one year younger Florian Clara also his first World Cup race in the doubles, which they finished in sixth place. At the European Championships in 2006 Pigneter won bronze in the single-seater and at the Junior World Championships 2006, he won gold in the single-seater and, together with Clara also gold in doubles.

In the season 2006/2007 Pigneter won five of six World Cup races in the single-seater, which he successfully defended his overall victory from last year successfully. In doubles Pigneter / Clara denied this winter three World Cup races. In this they succeeded at the first start of the season in Longiaru the first victory and followed finish the season in moss pass in eggs, a second place. At the 2007 World Championships in Grande Prairie Pigneter won bronze in the single-seater and together with Renate Gietl and Florian Clara silver in the team competition. In doubles, the duo race Pigneter / Clara but was disqualified because the rails of their sled, as well as with three other couples, exceeded the allowed maximum temperature. In the junior class Pigneter not beat this winter. In the Junior European Championships 2007 in St. Sebastian, he won like last year at the Junior World Championships in both the single-seaters and the doubles. In 2007 he also won his first of nine existing Italian league titles.

A special power succeeded the doubles pair Patrick Pigneter and Florian Clara in winter 2007/ 2008. In her first full World Cup season they could win all six races for themselves and for the first time win the World Cup so. Even in single-seater Pigneter was still the measure of all things. He won four World Cup races and scored two second places, which he overall winner in the single-seat World Cup was the third time in a row. At the 2008 European Championships in Olang however Pigneter remained without a win. In single-seater he finished behind Robert Batkowski and Anton Blasbichler third place in the doubles and the unbeaten in the World Cup double Pigneter / Clara remained in second place behind the Russians Pavel and Ivan Lazarev Porschnew.

The 2008/2009 season brought Pigneter again a great success. In single-seater he won with four race wins for the fourth time overall World Cup and in doubles he reached with Florian Clara also has four wins, which he could also repeat the overall victory in the doubles World Cup. This time he was at the peak of winter, the 2009 World Championships in moss pass in eggs, can not be beat. Pigneter won all three gold medals in single-seaters, in the doubles and team competition. He is so far the only one who was both in single-seaters and the doubles champion.

At the European Championships 2010 in St. Sebastian Pigneter could almost repeat the triple triumph. He won the single-seater and in doubles competition, but was with the team in the team competition Italy I finished second. In the World Cup season of 2009/2010 Pigneter secured with three wins, two second and a third place for the fifth consecutive year the overall win in the single-seat World Cup. He is now in front of Anton Blasbichler that by 2005 four times won the World Cup of 1996, one with the most World Cup victories in the single-seater. In doubles Pigneter / Clara won four of six races of the season and for the third time in a row the World Cup, which was ahead of them in the doubles yet no one has succeeded.

In the season 2010/2011 Pigneter won four of the six races of the season in single-seaters, and thus for the sixth time overall World Cup. In the doubles duo Pigneter / Clara get three wins and thus the fourth overall World Cup victory in a row. At the end of the season Pigneter held a total of 22 World Cup victories in the recliner, which he overtook the previous record winner Anton Blasbichler, who won 20 races. At the World Cup 2011 in Obergurgl itself Pigneter was defeated in single-seater the Austrians Gerald chamber Lander and Robert Batkowski. In doubles, he won the silver medal with Florian Clara behind the Russians Porschnew / Lazarev. Pigneter and Clara started as a double in the team competition and won together with Renate Gietl and Anton Blasbichler the gold medal.

The 2011/2012 season began Pigneter in Latzfons with victories in single-and twin -seater. Since then, the duo Pigneter / Clara holds the sole record for World Cup victories in the doubles against the Austrians Reinhard Beer and Herbert Kögl. In single-seater Pigneter also won the other five World Cup races of the year, making it the first time a natural track luge in the men's singles managed all World Cup races of a season to decide for themselves. In doubles Pigneter / Clara succeeded but just another victory, which they were ousted by the Russians Porschnew / Lazarev to second place in the overall World Cup. At the European Championships 2012 in Novouralsk Pigneter won for the second time in a row the title in the recliner, while Pigneter / Clara tasks in doubles because of a defect on the slide, the race for a championship round. In the team competition, he finished with his teammates in fourth place.
