FIL European Luge Natural Track Championships 2006

The 21st FIL natural track luge European championship was held from 27 to 29 January 2006 at the Austrian Umhausen place on the natural toboggan run Grantau.

Single Seater Men

Date: January 28 (1st and 2.Wertungslauf ) and 29 January 2006 ( 3 championship round )

The Austrian Gernot Schwab won the gold medal with personal bests in all three scoring runs. In second place was another Austrian, Thomas Schopf, who won his first medal at major events. He remained six hundredths of a second in front of the bronze medalist Patrick Pigneter from Italy, although in the second and third round scored the second fastest time - only during Schopf each finished fifth - but had lost too much time on cropping in the first run. Single Seater Ladies

The Italian Christa Gietl could with the fastest time to make up their deficit from the first two runs in the third round and won three hundredths of a second ahead of her teammate Imelda Gruber, who won the first race. Renate Gietl was after the fastest time in the second run before the final round in the lead, but lost in this time and was eventually third parties. The defending champion and big favorite Lawrentjewa Ekaterina from Russia, who won all World Cup races of the season, was fifth.

Two-seater

Date: January 28, 2006 ( both races )

The defending champion Pawel Porschnew and Ivan Lazarev of Russia were with personal bests in both scoring runs for the second time European Champion in doubles. With their second- best run time, the Austrian Christian treasure and Gerhard Muhlbacher won the silver medal. Although only the fourth best running time achieved the Russians Denis Alimov and Roman Molwistow, thus reaching the final score but the third place.
