FIL European Luge Natural Track Championships 1970

The first FIL Luge Natural Track Championship was held from 24 to 25 January 1970 in Kapfenberg in Austria. The holding of this first European Championship was decided at the FIL Congress in June 1969, the toboggan club Kapfenberg entrusted with its implementation. Nine countries had confirmed their participation ensures ( Federal Republic of Germany, German Democratic Republic, Italy, Yugoslavia, Canada, Austria, Spain, Czechoslovakia and the USA), but actually participated had finally only five countries ( Federal Republic of Germany, German Democratic Republic, Italy, Yugoslavia and Austria ). For East German athletes who were previously active exclusively on artificial track, it was the only natural track luge participation in European Championships. The host country Austria won all three contests and seven of nine medals, two medals went to Italy.

Single Seater Men

First European champion in the men's single seater was the Austrian Ernst Stangl, who his teammates Anton Obernosterer to only one tenth of a second to second place referred in the last run. The bronze medal won Gottfried Lexer, also from Austria.

Single Seater Ladies

First European champion in the women's single seater was Hannelore Plattner of Austria. She won 1.12 seconds ahead of her teammate Klara Niedertscheider. Already seven seconds residue had the third-placed Italian Maria Dibiasi.

Two-seater

As in the single-seat heritage Advertise went the victory in the doubles to Austria. Anton Obernosterer and Joseph Lexer, who won silver and bronze in Einsitzerbewerb were European champions in doubles. The silver medal won the Italian double Hans Graber and Erich Graber. Bronze went to the Austrian Josef Hilgarter and Gerhard Sandhofer.
