FIL European Luge Natural Track Championships 1987

The 12th FIL Luge Natural Track Championship took place from 19 to 22 February 1987 in Jesenice in Yugoslavia instead. The Italian team won all three contests and eight of the nine medals.

Single Seater Men

Date: February 21 ( 1st and 2nd championship round ) and 22 February 1987 ( 3 championship round )

For the fifth time all three medals went with natural track luge European Championships in men's singles in Italy. The race was won by Manfred graves before Harald Steinhauser and Erhard miller's man. Steinhauser last year was third in the World Cup, tombs and Mahlknecht won their first medals at major events. The defending champion Manfred Danklmaier from Austria did not reach the target.

Single Seater Ladies

Date: February 21 ( 1st and 2nd championship round ) and 22 February 1987 ( 3 championship round )

The Italian Vaudan Delia, who was also three times world champion, for the second year in a row and for the third time European champion in single seaters. Before her, it was only the Austrian Klara Niedertscheider succeeded three times to win the European title. The silver medal won the Italian Helga Pichler. She was third last year at the World Championships. The bronze medal - and thus the only medal for Austria at this European Championship - won Irene Koch.

Two-seater

Date: February 22, 1987 (both races )

Italian triple victory in the doubles: For the second time in a row and for the third time all European medals went to Italy in the doubles. The gold medal won Andreas Jud and Ernst Upper Hammer, who were at the last European Championship third and twice world champion. The silver medal went to the reigning World Champion Almir Betemps and Corrado Herin, who were also second in the last European Championship. The bronze medal won Arnold Lunger and Günther Steinhauser, who were third in the World Cup last year. Günther Steinhauser was 1983 European Champion Andreas Jud.
