Willi Danklmaier

Willi Danklmaier is a former Austrian natural track luge from Styria. He started both in single-seaters as well in doubles and won two medals at World and European Championships as well as a medal at the European Junior Championships. In the World Cup he achieved two podium places.

Career

The launching of the WSV Liezen Danklmaier scored from the late 1970s until the mid -1990s a number of successes at major events. The first medal he won in 1979 along with his brother Manfred in the European Junior Championship in Lienzen. Behind the Italian double Hellweger / upper hammer they took second place.

In the general class Danklmaier won at the European Championships 1981 in Niedernsill back together with his brother the bronze medal in the doubles, and two years later they missed in fourth at the European Championships 1983 in St. Konrad only just another medal. At the World Championships in 1984 in Kreuth Danklmaier won the bronze medal in the single-seater behind Alfred Kogler and Giuseppe Cerise, two years later he was at the World Cup 1986 in Fénis eighth and scored in the European Cup in Inzing third place in the single-seater. During the next few years thanks Maier remained at the European Championships just behind the medals: In 1987 he was in Jesenice fourth in the recliner, 1989 in Garmisch -Partenkirchen fifth in single-seaters and together with Gerhard Hirzegger also fifth in doubles and 1991 Fiè turn Fifth single-seater.

The next medal won Danklmaier in the World Cup 1992 in Bad Goisern, when he was behind Gerhard Pilz second in the single-seater. The same position he also managed at the European Championships in 1993 in Stein an der Enns, this time behind the Italians Anton Blasbichler. In the 1994 World Cup in Gsies he finished seventh and at the European Championships in 1995 in Kandalakscha fourth in the single-seater. In the World Cup, which has been held since 1992/1993, he scored in the first winter in sixth place overall and a year later with a second place in Fiè and a third place in Szczyrk fifth overall in the single-seater.
