Marlies Wagner

Marlies Wagner ( born May 25, 1983 in Vienna) is an Austrian Naturbahnrodlerin. The sports scientist won previously at the World and European Championships, one silver and two bronze medals in the team competition, in single-seater is a fourth place her best result to date. Career

Wagner took from 1998 to 2003 at the Junior World and European championships in part and missed it twice in fourth at the Junior World Championship 1999 in Huttau and at the Junior European Championship 2003 in Kreuth only just a medal. In the 2001/2002 season in the World Cup they could not quite connect to the previous year's results and fell, equal on points with the Russian Julija Wetlowa, in eighth place in the overall standings back. The greatest success of this winter she succeeded at the Austrian Championships 2002, when she was Austrian Champion in the single-seater for the first time. In the season 2002/2003 she succeeded in the fifth World Cup race in Kindberg third place her second podium finish and it reached equal points with Italian Renate Gietl sixth place in the overall World Cup single-seater. In the 2003 World Cup in Železniki they finished ninth.

In the seasons 2003/2004 and 2004/2005 Wagner scored in almost every race a top-10 result, with her ​​best result was a fifth place in the last race of the season, respectively. At the 2004 European Championships in Huttau she missed in fourth barely a medal in the single-seater, at the World Championship 2005 in Laces she was only ten. In the World Cup season 2005/2006 Wagner ran as a third party in Grande Prairie again on the podium, reaching further three fifth places in the overall World Cup fifth place for the second time after the 2000/2001 season. She was also the second time Austrian Champion in the single-seater. In the 2006 European Championship in Obergurgl she finished in eighth place.

While Wagner was in the World Cup season 2006/2007 with no podium, achieved its best result a fifth place in January in Obergurgl and thus fell back to eighth place in the standings, they scored in the 2007/2008 season with the third rank in Obergurgl again a podium finish, which she finished sixth overall. At the beginning of the season 2010/2011 Wagner scored in Novouralsk two fifth places, which remained their best World Cup results this winter. At the World Cup 2011 in Obergurgl they finished ninth in the single-seater and together with Thomas Chamber Lander, Christian Schopf and Andreas Schopf in Austria Team II fourth in the team competition.

Although Wagner at the beginning of 2012 for the third time Austrian Champion in the single-seater was, she could not connect to the results of previous years internationally in the season 2011 /2012. A seventh place in the opening race in Latzfons was her best World Cup result, so they fell back in the World Cup to ninth place - their worst overall result since their first World Cup season twelve years ago. At the European Championships 2012 in Novouralsk she came in eleventh place for the first time at international championships not in the top 10.

In addition to tobogganing Wagner also participates in competitions in the role sledding in the summer. She repeatedly won the Austrian Championships and the Appreciation of the role of Austrian luge cups.
