Peter Lechner

Peter Lechner ( born April 15, 1966) is a former Austrian natural track luge. He also started in the recliner, but was especially successful in doubles. Lechner won in doubles three medals at World and European Championships and three World Cup races five times and reached the third place in the World Cup.

Career

First international successes achieved Peter Lechner in the 1993/1994 season, when he finished sixth in doubles overall World Cup with Simon My Schad and was at the World Cup 1994 in Gsies tenth in the single-seater. From next winter Lechner started four years with Martin Schneebauer in doubles. They reached in the season 1994/1995 to fifth place in the overall World Cup and achieved at the European Championships in 1995 in Kandalakscha sixth place. In single-seater Lechner went to eighth place at the European Championships in 1995. On December 30, 1995 achieved Schneebauer / Lechner finished third in Rautavaara the first podium in the World Cup; the first victory came on January 19, 1997 in Szczyrk. Both in the 1995/1996 season and in the 1996/1997 season they reached the third place in the World Cup. At the World Cup in 1996 and the European Championships in 1997 Oberperfuss moss in pass eggs they each occupied the sixth place in the doubles. In single-seater Lechner 1996 and 1997 Twelfth Twentieth. In their most recent joint World Cup season 1997/1998 Schneebauer / Lechner drove in three of the six races to third place and finished fifth in the World Cup. In the 1998 World Cup in Rautavaara they finished seventh. In single-seater Peter Lechner did not start from 1998.

After Martin Schneebauer 1998 had ended his career, Peter Lechner came from the winter 1998/1999 on for three years with Peter Braunegger in doubles. Lechner / Braunegger were in those three years in any World Cup race worse than fifth, drove a total of eight times into the top three and celebrated on January 16, 2000 in Garmisch -Partenkirchen and on 7 January 2001 in Unterammergau two World Cup victories. Thus they reached in all three seasons (1998/1999, 1999/2000 and 2000/2001) in third place in doubles overall World Cup. For international championships they won a total of three medals. At the European Championships in 1999 Szczyrk they were behind Helmut and Andi Ruetz Second, only at the World Championship 2000 in Olang they missed in fourth just short of the podium. At the World Championship 2001 in Stein an der Enns Lechner / Braunegger reached the third place in the doubles and together with Marlies Wagner and Gerhard Pilz second place in the inaugural team competition. After the winter 2000/2001 both Peter Lechner Peter Braunegger ended their career.
