Reinhard Beer

Reinhard Beer ( born October 2, 1969 in Bad Ischl ) is a former Austrian natural track luge. From 1995 to 2007 he trained with Herbert Kögl one of the most successful doubles pairs. They were each once a world champion in doubles and in the team competition and won the World Cup twice. With a total of 18 victories in World Cup races they are to this day the doubles pair with the most World Cup victories.

Career

Beer was launched in 1986 at the European Junior Championships in the first single-seater, achieved in 1986 to fifth place in 1987 and won the silver medal. In 1988, he was sixth in the single-seater and he started together with Herbert fungus also in the doubles. They won the bronze medal. From 1989 Beer went at international championships in the general class at the start, first again only in single-seaters. He was at the European Championships in 1989 and the 1990 World Cup and 15th at the European Championships in 1991 ninth. He then moved successfully to the double -seater. In the World Cup he managed together with Gerhard Pilz at the beginning of the season 1994/1995 with third place in Negaunee, the first podium finish. Also the third place went to the duo at the European Cup in Olang.

From the season 1995/1996 Beer made ​​together with Herbert Kögl a doubles pair. With Kögl him at the World Championships in 1996 in Oberperfuss the breakthrough of the world leaders when they were world champions in the doubles against their compatriots Andi and Helmut Ruetz and the Italians Psenner Martin and Arthur Künig. Previously, she had already achieved two podium finishes in the World Cup. From the winter 1996/1997, the duo was victorious in the World Cup. They won three of six World Cup races and decided for the first time the World Cup itself. They referred the Austrian Erfolgsudo Ruetz / Ruetz in second place, which then won the overall title both years before and two years. With one exception, due to an injury by Reinhard Beer at the 2001 World Cup, the duo Beer / Kögl binned another ten years consistently among the top three in the World Cup and in the 2004/2005 season they were able to repeat their overall victory. At the European Championships in 1997 in Moss pass in eggs, they won the bronze medal.

In the 1997/1998 season Kögl and Beer won two World Cup races, but fell in the World Cup back in third place. In the 1998 World Cup in Rautavaara they were also third in the European Championship 1999 in Szczyrk they did not come, however, to the finish. In 1998, they were for the first time Austrian national champion in doubles. By 2007, they won this title five more times. In the season 1998/1999 Beer / Kögl reached with one win and four other podium finishes in second place in the World Cup, as well as in the 1999/2000 season in which they won two races and placed second twice. At the World Championship 2000 in Olang, they won the silver medal behind the Italians Armin and David Mair, who won this winter also in the World Cup.

The World Cup season 2000/2001 started Beer / Kögl with a win and a second place in Obergurgl in Unterammergau. At the World Championship 2001 in mid-January in Stein an der Enns Reinhard Beer badly injured. In the first decision, the inaugural team competition, he touched the side track barrier and broke his left arm. They had to pause for the rest of the winter, so were at the last two World Cup races not at the start, but still occupied the fourth place in the overall World Cup.

In the 2001/2002 season, the duo Beer / Kögl reached with a victory in Obergurgl and a further three podiums again in second place in the World Cup, this time behind the Poles Andrzej Laszczak and Damian Waniczek. At the 2002 European Championships in Frantschach - Sankt Gertraud they were second behind Wolfgang and Andreas Schopf. In the seasons 2002/2003 and 2003/2004 Beer and Kögl achieved with one or two wins each third place in the overall World Cup. In the 2003 World Cup in Železniki they fell out after a fall in the first competition round and at the 2004 European Championships in Huttau they missed in fourth barely a medal.

In the season 2004/2005 Beer and Kögl could decide after eight years for the second time the two-seat World Cup itself. They won three races and was twice runner-up. In addition, they won at the 2005 World Championships in Laces together with Melanie and Robert Batkowski the team competition. However, in the two-seater they drove by 12 hundredths of a second past the landing and ended up in fourth place. In the seasons 2005/2006 and 2006/2007 Beer / Kögl reached with one win third place overall in the World Cup. In the 2006 European Championship in Obergurgl they drove but only seventh. At the 2007 World Championships in Grande Prairie, they were together with Marlies Wagner and Gerald Kammerlander third in the team competition. However, in the two-seater they remained without result, because they were, as well as three other couples disqualified because the rails of their toboggan have exceeded the allowed maximum temperature.

Shortly before the beginning of the season 2007/2008 Reinhard Beer announced his resignation.
