Andriy Medvedev

Andriy Medvedev (Ukrainian Андрій Медведєв; born August 31, 1974 in Kiev ) is a former Ukrainian tennis player.

Medvedev was already one in the juniors of the best players in his final junior year, 1991, he won the French Open. Shortly thereafter, he moved to the professional tour, where he was directly successful. Even as a 17- year-old he won the 1992 tournaments in Genoa and the Mercedes Cup in Stuttgart. With his strong baseline game he scored particularly on sand among the best players.

After victories in Monaco and Hamburg Medvedev reached in May 1994 with rank 4 its highest placement on the world tennis rankings.

His last tournament victory won Medvedev in 1997 in Hamburg. After that, he was able to record only a few successes. All the more surprising, he reached in 1999, inter alia, with wins over Pete Sampras and Gustavo Kuerten the final of the French Open. There, however, he was defeated in spite of 2 -0- set lead Andre Agassi. This was the last finals for Medvedev on the tour. In 2001, he finished his career.

Privately, he was temporarily allied with the German tennis player Anke Huber.
