Anne Armstrong

Anne Legendre Armstrong (* December 27 1927 in New Orleans, Louisiana; † 30 July 2008 in Houston, Texas) was an American diplomat and politician ( Republican).

Career

Armstrong was the first female Counselor to the President. She had held the post under the governments Ford and Nixon. She is also the bearer of Presidential Medal of Freedom. This was conferred by Ronald Reagan.

She graduated in 1949 from Vassar College. In 1950, she married Tobin Armstrong and moved to the Kenedy County, Texas. From 1966 to 1968 she was deputy leader of the Republicans in Texas. From 1971 to 1973 she was co -chair of the Republican National Committee and 1972, "keynote speaker " at the Republican National Convention in Miami Beach.

From 1976 to 1977 she was the successor of Elliot L. Richardson, the first female U.S. Ambassador to Great Britain.

Family

Her daughter Katharine Armstrong is a Bush Pioneer. She owns the ranch, on the February 11 or 12, 2006 Harry Whittington was shot by Vice President Dick Cheney.
