Annette Island

Annette Iceland or Taak'w Aan is an island in the southeastern part of Alaska on the Pacific coast. It is part of the Alexander Archipelago and is located just south of Revillagigedo Iceland. The highest elevation of the mountainous island is the Tamgas Mountain, with an altitude of 1095 meters.

Metlakatla on the west coast is the largest town on the island, which was founded by the Anglican missionary William Duncan. The entire island is an Indian reservation since March 3, 1891, is inhabited by the Tsimshian, who immigrated in the late 19th century from the area of present-day British Columbia. Only the residents of Metlakatla retained by the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act of 1971 under that contract their reserve.

Was named the island in 1879 by WH Dall of the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey by his wife, Annette Whitney Dall.
