Antonio Silio

Antonio Fabián Silió (Antonio Fabián Silió Alaguire; born May 9, 1966 in Nogoya, Entre Ríos ) is a former Argentine long-distance runner, who belonged in the 1990s to world class.

In 1991, he won the 5000 -meter run, the only medal for Argentina's athletes at the Pan American Games, when he was in 13:45,15 min behind the two Mexicans Arturo Barrios and Ignacio Fragoso reached the goal. 1992 Silió qualified at the Olympic Games in Barcelona in the 10,000 meters for the finals, finishing in 18th place. The following year he finished second in 28:36,88 min eighth at the World Championships in Stuttgart. In 1998, he won the 10,000 -meter run at the Ibero-American Championships.

Silió since the beginning of his career was also active in the road race. In 1992 he won silver at the World Half Marathon Championships as part of the Great North Runs in 1:00:40 h ( track record not suitable). In 1995 he established the current national record in the marathon, when he won the Hamburg Marathon with a course record of 2:09:57 h. In 1996 he competed in the marathon in the Olympic Games in Atlanta, but did not reach the goal. In 1998, he was with another national record of 1:00:45 h sixth in the World Half Marathon Championships on the track of the Greifensee run. In 2001, he finished his career.
