Åråsen Stadion

The Arasen Stadium ( norweg.: Arasen stadion) is a football stadium in the Norwegian city of Lillestrøm. It is the home of the football club Lillestrøm SK.

History

In the first half of the 20th century Lillestrøm SK played on different courses. In 1947 a committee with planning their own stadium. On September 29, 1947, the purchase of the dedicated plot was resolved. The land was reclaimed and so the Arasen stadium was finally opened on July 7, 1951. The stadium at that time had a grandstand for 2500 spectators and was able to hold a maximum of 6,000 spectators. The field measured 108x67 meters. The construction costs amounted to 150,000 Norwegian kroner; Moreover, approximately 31,000 volunteer hours were invested.

The opening game on July 7, 1951 Lillestrøm SK and denied the Sarpsborg FK. Lillestrøm won 3-2, but Sarpsborg scored the first goal in the new stadium.

Until 1960, the stadium was expanded several times. On April 7, 1967, a fire broke out in the stands and destroyed parts of the stadium. The destroyed buildings were rebuilt and expanded their stadium. The attendance record dates back to 1993. 13,595 spectators watched the match between Lillestrøm SK and Rosenborg Trondheim.

End of the 90s began the expansion to the present stand So in 2000 the West Tribune ( Strømmen Storsenter - tribune ) was completed in 2001, the then North -Tribune (then adidas tribunes, today diadora tribunes ) and 2002 finally the eastern grandstand (RB - Tribune). Since then, the Arasen Stadium has a capacity of 12,250 spectators.

Floodlights

Being close to Kjeller Airport, Arasen Stadium could have no fixed floodlights. So temporary floodlights were prepared for each game. Today, the stadium has retractable floodlights. They have a minimum height of twelve meters and are extended in games to 40 m.
