Arthur Russell (athlete)

Arthur Russell ( born March 13, 1886 in Walsall, West Midlands, † August 23, 1972 ) was a British track and field athlete and Olympic champion.

Originally from Staffordshire Russell was between 1904 and 1906 three times British champion in steeplechase. At the Olympic Games in London in 1908 the obstacle course over a distance of 3200 meters was held, which corresponded approximately to the usual UK distance of 2 miles. In his advance he was one of only two runners who ever crossed the finish line. The finals he won by a margin of almost two meters to his compatriot Archie Robertson.
