Asterix at the Olympic Games

Asterix at the Olympic Games ( original French title: Astérix aux Jeux Olympiques ) is the twelfth volume of the comic book series Asterix. The drawings are by Albert Uderzo, the texts by René Goscinny. 2008, the eponymous feature film was released to comic.

Action

In the Roman camp aquarium near the small Gallic village of Legionnaires musculus trained for participation in the Olympic Games. When the Gauls learn it, they decide to also take part, because thanks to the magic potion of their druid Getafix they are invincible. Tullius Redeflus, the Roman centurion, it points out that in addition to Greeks only Romans were entitled to participate in the games. Asterix reminds the Gauls but the fact that they also may be since the Roman conquest of Gaul. Therefore, the Gauls choose Asterix and Obelix as athletes, but all the men of the village to break with them to Greece, to support them at the games.

In the Roman Olympic athletes of muscle and Tullius Redeflus learn that two invincible Gauls will participate in the Games. The ambition of the Romans turns off, and they start instead of training with boisterous orgies. However, it turns out that taking power enhancing agents is strictly prohibited. The Romans then begin training again full of confidence, while the Gauls Obelix retire as an athlete and decide that Asterix alone - to represent the village - no magic potion.

The book was published in 1968, the year of the Summer Olympics in Mexico. The story was first printed in the magazine Pilote on 15 February 1968 ( Issue No. 434 ) until July 25, 1968 ( Issue # 455 ). The German translation came out in 1972, the year of the Summer Olympics in Munich.

Goscinny and Uderzo have been immortalized in this band itself: On Blackboard 25B (page 29 of the German edition ) can be seen at the entrance of the Olympic village is a relief; under the two figures are the names " ΓΟΣΚΙΝΝΙ " and " ΥΔΕΡΖΟ ".
